Bob Mould on Sugar's Reunion: "House of Dead Memories" and the 40 Watt Club Origins (Encore)

Bob Mould — the songwriter behind Hüsker Dü, Copper Blue, and Beaster — returns to Takin' A Walk for an encore look at Sugar's unlikely 2025 reunion. Mould walks through the band's 1992 formation with bassist David Barbie and drummer Malcolm Travis, the legendary debut show at Athens, Georgia's 40 Watt Club, and how a sugar packet at a Waffle House became the band's name. He revisits Copper Blue's NME Album of the Year win, the twin-record relationship between Copper Blue and Beaster, the Americana influences behind File Under: Easy Listening, and what it took to reconvene in Oakland in June 2025 to record "House of Dead Memories" — Sugar's first new song in over 30 years. Mould also previews the band's 2026 tour, closing out where it all began: Athens, Georgia.
