Filmmaker and thru-hiker Elina Osborne is my guest today. If you’ve ever looked up trail vlogs on YouTube, chances are you’ve stumbled upon her cinematic stories of the PCT, Te Araroa, the Hayduke Trail, and the Michinoku Coastal Trail. I was absolutely thrilled to meet up with her in person over coffee in Auckland to chat about the intersection of film, writing, and long-distance walking.
Though many know her as an outdoor creator, Elina's true driving force is storytelling. For her, hiking serves as the ultimate backdrop for profound visual memoirs built on personal journaling. In this episode, we dive into how outdoor spaces become characters of their own, the magic behind her viral video "It is the People", and how she maintains the intrinsic motivation to document life on the trail.
