Gohl was not who he appeared to be. Manipulative, self-absorbed, and cunning, he had plans to steal the money, delivering sailors, or slaves, to the captains of the ships, earning kickbacks and claiming what he thought was rightfully his. And if a few men died in the process? Well so be it. They’d probably be better off.
