Russia's Return to Afghanistan, New Chinese Jets, and Kazakhstan's Legislative Election

This week, we're covering the eyes of the world turning toward Central Asia for the upcoming SCO summit in Bishkek, bringing Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi together in the Kyrgyz capital, the CSTO making a series of major pledges in response to growing instability in northern Afghanistan, one of Central Asia's largest militaries publicly showcasing its new Chinese fighter jets for the first time, Uzbekistan signing a major new deal with a partner on the Caspian, and significant new powers being handed to a key figure inside the Uzbek administration. Before then turning to our main story this week, where we look at Kazakhstan's first elections since the country's constitutional reforms, bringing in a special guest to break down the results, what they tell us about the state of Kazakh politics, and what they could mean for the country going forward.
