More Americans are turning to cannabis to quit nicotine, and a new study suggests there may be a catch. In this TDR Cannabis in 5, host Shadd Dales breaks down research from the San Francisco VA Health Care System, the University of California and NYU, published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, using a survey of 2,804 U.S. adults who smoke cigarettes, vape nicotine or both.Among people trying to quit cigarettes, 9% said they used cannabis, compared with 9.4% using prescription quit-smoking medication. Among those trying to quit vaping, cannabis ranked third, behind quitting cold turkey and switching to another nicotine product, and ahead of nicotine replacement, prescription aids and behavioral programs. The researchers wrote that THC use is surpassing evidence-based interventions. The catch: people who used THC to quit cigarettes reported more severe withdrawal, including trouble sleeping and concentrating. Vapers who used THC reported more trouble concentrating. The survey can't show whether THC worsens withdrawal or whether people with tougher dependence reach for it, and popularity isn't proof something works. The video also covers the bigger picture, including Gallup's record-high marijuana use, record-low cigarette smoking, why method of consumption matters, why controlled trials are the next step, and where federal rescheduling stands and how it could shape future research. Does cannabis help people quit, or just replace one habit with another?Drop your thoughts in the comments, and subscribe to TDR for the latest cannabis research, policy and industry news.#Cannabis #Marijuana #QuitSmoking #Vaping #Nicotine #CannabisNews #CannabisResearch #THC #SmokingCessation #HarmReductionWant to see more Cannabis Reform?🎬    • Why the Judge's Rescheduling Order May Pro...  🎬    • Why the DEA's GAO Response Is Good News fo...  🎬    • Two Tracks Decide Cannabis Rescheduling | ...  🎬    • Governor Healey Says She'll Vote No on Can...  Want to stay updated on Cannabis, Small Cap, AI, and Crypto?Subscribe to our Daily Baked newsletter:https://newsletter.thedalesreport.com...Find us on social media and podcast platforms:✅ Facebook:   / thedalesreport  ✅ Twitter:   / thedalesreport  ✅ Instagram:   / dalesreport  ✅ LinkedIn:   / the-dales-report  Apple Podcasts: https://tinyurl.com/TDRTradetoBlackon...Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/TDRTradeToBlackon...Website: https://thedalesreport.com/For copyright matters, contact:sdales@thedalesreport.comPodcast Disclaimer (Financial Interests)The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of any company, organization, or employer.
