Some people don’t just annoy us, they siphon our energy and leave us feeling smaller, heavier, and weirdly guilty for needing space. I sit down with relationship coach, speaker, and author Daniel Ratner to name that pattern clearly: “emotional vampires” and the everyday ways they show up in friendships, dating, work, and even family.

We talk about the difference between the people we keep close and the people we tolerate out of habit. Daniel shares his “keepers” framework and why the ability to say “I’m sorry” is a bigger deal than most of us admit. From there, we get into the toughest category: narcissism. We break down love bombing, control, and why a connection can quietly turn into what Daniel calls a “manipulationship”.

You’ll also hear practical tools for boundaries like time boxing and emotional separation, plus Daniel’s memorable “Sunscreen Love” metaphor.  We close with a hard but helpful question: could we be the one draining others, and what does self-esteem have to do with it?
