Paul was born in Canada and grew up in a missionary family in New Guinea. He wrote the book The Shack as a Christmas present for his children and had no idea that it would become more than that. The Shack became a great success, selling several million copies and has been translated into several languages. The book has also been available as a movie since 2016.
