We join Celie over her very difficult life. She survives abuse from those closest to her as she holds onto the dream of being reunited with her sister in Africa. Steven Spielberg directs one his first big steps outside of the big blockbusters he is known for in this adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel.
