After Colonel Brandon departs, Elinor has the unenviable task of telling Edward of his offer. She decides a letter is best, but before she can sit down to write, Edward himself arrives at her door. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, his gratitude toward Colonel Brandon, and toward Elinor, is sincere, and they part on good terms. All that's left is to clear up Mrs. Jennings's conjectures and misunderstandings of the whole situation, which brings some levity to the otherwise heavy afternoon. As Elinor's story progresses, let it help you on your way into another night of soft and restful sleep.
