In this episode, the philosopher Brendan Graham Dempsey joins Gregg to talk about his new book, A Universal Learning Process. It is the first installment of a larger work on The Evolution of Meaning. The book frames the complexification in the universe across the arc of cosmic evolution from the Big Bang to present as a kind of learning that goes through phases. Grounded in the ontology provided by the Tree of Knowledge System and Periodic Table of Behavior, the book charts this evolution starting with Energy and Information and then frames the complexification in Matter as “structural learning,” in Life as “genetic learning,” in Mind as “cognitive learning,” and in Culture as “symbolic learning.” Ultimately, the book culminates on the implications for what is sacred.
