65 - Importance of the Introduction

After concluding with all the prohibitions, mitzvos, and curses involved, the Chofetz Chaim tells us that we should reread this introduction because this will help protect us in our fight with lashon hara more than anything else. This is because (1) These words come from the great Rishonim whose words are like fire, (2) who practice what they preach, (3) and mystically the purity of their words will have an impact on whomever reads them. Rav Chaim Ozer Grodzinski writes that the Chofetz Chaim's own words are impactfully and inspiring to each person on their level.

ואֲבַקֵשׁ לִידִידִי הקוֹרֵא, שֶׁזֹּאת הַפְּתִיחָה יִקְרָא וְיַחֲזֹר וְיִקְרָא, כִּי הִיא בְּוַדַּאי מוֹעִילָה לְעִנְיָן זֶה עַל לְהַבָּא יוֹתֵר מִן הַכֹּל, כִּי הִיא מְלֻקֶטֶת מֵאֵת הָרִאשׁוֹנִים, אֲשֶׁר דִּבְרֵיהֶם קְדוֹשִׁים וּטְהוֹרִים, בּוֹעֲרוֹת כְּמַרְאֵה הַלַּפִּידִים, וּבְוַדַּאי שָׁמְרוּ אֶת עַצְמָן מְמִדָּה גְּרוּעָה הַזּוֹ עַד תַּכְלִיתָה, עַל כֵּן דִּבְרֵיהֶן פּוֹעֲלִין מְאֹד בְּלֵב קוֹרְאֵיהֶן, וְגַם יֵדַע הַקוֹרֵא שֶׁלֹּא לָקַחְתִּי אֶת הַלָּאוִין וְהָעֲשִׂין כְּפִי הַהִזְדַּמֵן, רַק חָקַרְתִּי וְדָרַשְׁתִּי הֵיטֵב אֶת הַתַּרְיָ''ג מִצְוֹת, וְהַרְבֵּה יְגִיעוֹת יָגַעְתִּי עַד שֶׁעֲזָרַנִי הַקָדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא, שֶׁמָצָאתִי אֶת אֵלּוּ הַנְּאוֹתִים לְעִנְיָנֵנוּ.
