I'm joined by Sam Thomas for this conversation about how to redefine success - and why we need to. Sam is founder of the mental health project "You alright mate" helping men and kids with their mental health.
For more than a decade, Sam has built businesses and communities across the UK, but his passion today is helping people redefine what success really means.
As the host of the Different Hats Podcast, Sam has interviewed hundreds of entrepreneurs, leaders, athletes, creatives, and changemakers, exploring one simple but powerful question: "How do you define success?" Through those conversations, he discovered that the things we often chase, money, status, and achievement, rarely tell the whole story.
That insight led him to create You Alright Mate?, a social impact movement dedicated to improving mental wellbeing and reducing suicide by challenging outdated narratives around success and encouraging more honest conversations.
Through corporate programmes, school workshops, keynote talks, and community initiatives, Sam helps people develop emotional literacy, resilience, and deeper human connection using his Five Pillars of Success framework: Balance, Authenticity, Presence, Fulfilment, and Relationships.
His mission is simple: to create a world where people feel seen, heard, and valued, and where asking, "You Alright Mate?" becomes more than a greeting, it becomes an invitation for a real conversation.
Because sometimes three words really can make a difference.
