We break down the season finale of Apple TV’s Cape Fear, “The Executioners,” and question why it’s labeled a season—not series—finale. We also share quick notes on our new FX coverage of Furious (Sona is obsessed after all three episodes) and Apple TV’s Lucky, which has jumped into the streaming top 10 with big week-over-week growth. On the finale, we agree it’s one of the better-directed episodes with strong performances and an entertaining mock-trial set piece, but we’re frustrated by illogical scripting, bizarre character decisions, leaving Cape Fear for Savannah, underused themes (including surveillance and earlier religious imagery), and unsatisfying loose ends seemingly meant to set up season two. We end by previewing upcoming Furious coverage and discussing Spider-Man ticket sellouts and strong early reception.
