Umm Maryam studied Arabic from age seven all the way to a degree in Jordan. She could read, memorize and conjugate, yet she still hesitated to speak.
Now a mother of four girls, homeschooling in Malaysia, she is changing how Arabic lives in her home: everyday phrases, unit studies, following her daughters' interests, and Quran at the centre of the day.
Her advice if you learned Arabic but can't speak it: start small, stop worrying about sounding perfect, and remember that our children don't need a perfect Arabic lecture. They just need exposure.
