Meg Richman shares how she transitioned from painting towriting, explains the importance of writing groups, and reveals why she approaches storytelling as if she’s watching a movie.
Raised in a Jewish family by an activist mother andphilosopher father, Meg Richman grew up in a diverse inner-city neighborhood that shaped her creative voice. She began as a minimalist painter in Seattle before studying art at UC Berkeley, where she moved into experimental film andlater feature filmmaking. Meg spent 15 years in Hollywood as a screenwriter and director; her film Under Heaven screened at Sundance and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. After adopting a child, she returned to the Pacific Northwest to teach at-risk youth. Her novel Lexi Goes to School was inspired by this work.
