In his homily, Fr. David Gunter, MIC, reflects on the mystery of salvation, a mystery that has been handed down and contemplated by Christians for centuries. Yet this mystery is not simply something to learn about intellectually; each of us must seek to understand the mystery of Christ within our own hearts so that we can live a new life in Him. Recalling Jesus’ words, “Even if you do not believe me, believe the works,” Fr. Gunter emphasizes that this transformation is possible through prayer. He also reflects on the silence found in the Latin Mass, explaining that entering into silence and prayer creates space to contemplate salvation, communicate with the Father, and recognize how the Lord is working in our lives.
Fr. Gunter also recalls Jesus’ words, “You did not choose me, but I chose you,” reminding us that we are chosen by God and that every person is special and unique in His eyes. Through His Passion, death, and Resurrection, Christ has broken the power of sin and opened the way for us to live in holiness. We often fail to understand the extraordinary gift God has given us: the grace and power to become holy. Fr. Gunter therefore encourages us to look each day upon the mystery of Christ and His saving work. As we contemplate Him in prayer, we gradually discover who we truly are in Christ and learn to live the new life He has prepared for us.
