What does the Bible say about anxiety and sleepless nights?
Modern life and constant algorithms lead to anxiety, fear, and hopelessness, the opposite of the life God wants for us. In Proverbs 3:24-26, Solomon says that with wisdom we can lie down without fear and sleep sweetly because we know the Lord is at our side.
In Proverbs 2-4, King Solomon sits his son down for a series of heart-to-heart talks about where real security comes from and the biggest choice he’ll ever have to make: which path to walk. If you’ve ever begged your kids to just listen, you’ll hear yourself in Solomon’s voice.
In this Proverbs 2-4 Bible study, we cover:
[8:59] Ears to hear: How Jesus’ parable of the soils (Matthew 13) echoes Solomon’s plea and leads to a reflection on what kind of soil we are.
[16:28] A tree of life (Proverbs 3:18): How the Tree of Life from Eden reappears in Proverbs and through the cross points straight to Jesus, the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:30).
[21:47] Trust without answers (Proverbs 3:5-6): Why we don’t have to understand every step of God’s plan. We just need to stay on the path, and wisdom helps.
[25:38] Rest and security (Proverbs 3:21-26): Why wisdom brings confidence, peace, and security.
[31:09] Two paths (Proverbs 4:18-19): How small daily choices lead down either a bright, straight trail or a dark, crooked road.
[32:41] Guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23): Solomon's “above all else” advice shows how our words, focus, and footsteps all flow from what’s inside.
[22:06] Proverbs 3:5-6 invites us to trust God and follow His path even if we don’t understand. What is an area of your life that’s particularly hard to avoid leaning on your own understanding?
[26:15] Has the noise of social media ever stirred anxiety up in your heart? In those moments, what’s one small way you could lean into true wisdom and remind yourself the Lord is at your side?
[29:50] Solomon says to pursue wisdom above all else. When you reflect on your own life, what are the things you are intentionally pursuing? Where does wisdom fall on that list?
