In the final interview of this project, I interview Professor Deborah Liles of Tarleton State University. Liles discusses how slavery differed in the drier areas of the Texas frontier from the sort of plantation economy that thrived in the rich soils of eastern Texas. Her extensive research of the livestock economy of the Texas frontier challenges the traditional view of what slavery looked like in Texas and whether the institution of slavery could survive in frontier regions of the state. https://theotherside1865.com/
