Church hurt is real — and if you've felt it, you know the impulse to walk away. Pastor Inés Franklin takes that pain seriously. Then she says the harder thing: walking away is the one response that won't heal it.
Inés was seven years old when she asked a nun where God was standing before He created anything. The nun told her she had little faith and sent her to the back of the church to pray for forgiveness. She didn't return to a church community for thirty-three years.
This is Episode 2 of No One Finishes Alone — and it starts there.
Working through Colossians 3, 2 Corinthians 4, Romans 5, and Galatians 5, Inés makes the case that the church's imperfection was never a defect in the plan. Paul wrote to churches that were suing each other and getting drunk at communion, and still called them the body. We carry treasure in jars of clay, so the extraordinary power belongs to God, not to us.
She names her own part in it: fifteen years as a pastor, a tone she didn't mean to take, names she can't remember. She draws on Dallas Willard's picture of the church as a hospital staffed by people in recovery, and on Jim Wilhoit's idea of optimistic brokenness.
One line is drawn clearly: where there is abuse, leave and get help. Everywhere else, the friction is ordinary human nature — and it is the ground where we learn to forgive.
If you've pulled your chair away from the family of God, this episode isn't asking you to pretend the wound didn't happen. It's asking whether you're willing to stay close enough to be healed.
Next episode: How people actually change — and why it doesn't happen alone.
