DorkFest On Location: Pacific Surfliner to San Diego, 9/11 Reflections, and a Guam Detour
Lara and Tyler record from DorkFest in Los Angeles with guests Dave and longtime listener DJ, discussing meeting fellow spotters, Hyatt Globalist perks, and their day trip riding Amtrak’s state-supported Pacific Surfliner to San Diego for lunch at the Top Gun–filming Kansas City Barbecue and a Navy SEAL museum visit with friends from across the U.S. DJ shares his lifelong train and plane-spotting background, upcoming New York plans mixing commuter rail and food stops, and bucket-list routes. The group reflects on September 11, including Laura and Dave’s experiences as flight attendants, early post-9/11 flying conditions, and DJ’s interest in the Flight 11 crew’s heroism. Tyler recounts a Guam trip with his son via Tokyo, highlighting United’s Guam hub, resort stay, and travel logistics, and notes his transfer from Phoenix to Salt Lake.
