Why are Irish solicitors on strike and what does it mean for the legal system?

Dela

Prominent criminal defence solicitor Tony Collier is in studio today to talk to Nicola about the countrywide strike as the profession opposes the new legal aid District Court pay model brought in by Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.

Straight-talking Collier, of Ferrys Solicitors in Dublin, has represented countless clients in a long career.

He dismisses the public perception that solicitors are greedy fat cats coining the public purse and instead explains how the system works, why it is in place, and insists that the State have been getting bang for their buck.
