Episode 220 - Phantom of the Opera (1943) - Listener's Choice

Welcome back to The Horror Project Podcast!

This October, Laura and Phil head into the world of Classic Universal Monsters with our Listener’s Choice pick: Phantom of the Opera (1943), chosen by @Lenore1987 AKA Becky!

Starring Claude Rains as the tragic (and decidedly dramatic) Phantom, this Technicolor classic has it all: opera, romance, murder, Gothic gloom, and one VERY enormous opera house.

But is Erique Claudin truly terrifying… or just a misunderstood musician with terrible luck, poor money management, and an even worse living situation?

We dive into the film’s curious split between opera and horror, Christine’s three rival love interests (and who we’re rooting for!), those cavernous opera-house interiors, and Claudin’s tragic transformation from talented musician to murderous Phantom.

️Opera! Romance! Murder! Technicolor mayhem! What more could you want?

Thanks for listening!
