Battle of Long Island 250th anniversary

On August 27, 1776, the British surprised the Americans with a ferocious attack that enveloped their exposed left flank on Long Island, New York. The Continental line collapsed and the troops ran from the field, turning the Battle of Long Island into a British route. 

American Revolution (1765–1783) was a political conflict involving the Thirteen Colonies and Great Britain, culminating in the American Revolutionary War and the independence of the colonies as the United States. RW12.
