The victory at the Battle of Baecula marking Scipio’s arrival as a preeminent commander, while breaking Carthage’s grip on southern Spain and access to its vital silver mines. Resulting in Scipio being hailed as a king by the Iberians, a title that triggered alarm in theRoman Senate.
