What matters when we talk of the 3 Principles is not the words but the depth of feeling behind the words.  Our work is the outreach of one person's heart and soul to another's, a call to their wisdom, not a subject to learn.  We are not our thoughts; our thoughts are a reflection of the level of understanding from which we are creating them.  So the Principles point those who care about mental well-being to discourage indulging in self-analysis and long discussions about what's wrong with people or what isn't working for them.  The Principles lead us away from pity or commiseration and directly into the realization that the source of change is the power to think, not the content of our thoughts.  The Principles invite us to go before thought, to the infinite capacity we all have to create thoughts and to use the feelings thoughts generate within us as our guide to whether to act on them.  Contentment, peace of mind, creativity, hopefulness -- the positive feelings that bring us ease and joy in life -- are intrinsic to us, even when we're not in touch with them.  The Principles offer assurance that we cannot lose what we already have.
