Celebrating America 250: Fraunces Tavern

This podcast of US History Repeated is all about the Fraunces Tavern in NYC. Jeananne is joined by Melissa Lauer, Manager of Programs and Events at Fraunces Tavern Museum.

Fun facts you will learn more about in this podcast about the Fraunces Tavern:

1. It was a place that the British soldiers frequented when they took over NY during the revolutionary war and was a source of information to Washington and the army via spying.

2. It is the oldest barin NYC, and is still operational as a restaurant / tavern, serving 18th century fare, as well as a museum. 

3. It is the place where George Washington gave his farewell speach as general and turned power back to congress

4. It was used as a government building after the war and housed the original Foreign Affairs (State Dept), Dept of War, and Board of the Treasury.
