In the pantheon of badassery in punk rock, no one has a lead on Deniz Tek. In addition to helping to bring Detroit-style rock ‘n roll to Australia and then to the world with Radio Birdman and playing with some of those Detroit legends in New Race, Deniz became an emergency room surgeon, then a navy pilot and flight surgeon and finally a Kona coffee farmer in Hawaii. We talk about it all, from his early years working at an auto plant in Michigan to his current music with James Williamson of the Stooges, an upcoming reissue of the New Race LP and how he’s still learning new things and taking on new challenges.
