Is America close to a revolution? The data says probably not. But what it does say is stranger and harder to sit with.

17 percent of Americans trust the federal government. 89 percent believe corruption is widespread and that number crosses every party line — 91 percent of Democrats, 90 percent of independents, 83 percent of Republicans. Economic mobility has collapsed from 90 percent to 50 percent in two generations. Political violence is becoming more abstractly acceptable in surveys. And yet most Americans still get up, go to work, pay the mortgage, and do it again tomorrow.

So why do some societies explode while others stay angry for decades without doing much of anything? And what actually happens when trust breaks but revolution does not follow?

This episode covers the confirmed research on why revolutions happen and why they usually do not. The collective action problem. The threshold model. What the American Revolution was actually about. The testosterone theory and what the research actually shows. The political violence number everyone is misreading. What AI could change about the equation. Whether we are drifting toward Orwell, Brave New World, or something closer to Ready Player One. And what may already be replacing revolution as Americans quietly start building lives outside the system.
