Luis Romero didn't just try heroin. He fell in love with it. That love affair started in his teens and followed him straight into adulthood, into gang life, and into four felonies.

By the time he was sentenced to five years in prison, Luis thought a behavioral modification program was his way out. It wasn't. He got out, relapsed, and ended up at Freedom Ranch in San Diego, the place that finally gave him a program that stuck.

He started over with nothing. Dishwashing shifts. Three years riding the bus because he couldn't afford a car. No shortcuts, just the slow work of rebuilding a life from scratch.

Fourteen years later, Luis hosts the Fuck Fentanyl podcast and works at the same Freedom Ranch that gave him his start. This episode is proof that where you begin has nothing to do with where you end up.
