Object M: The Soviet UFO Mystery Beneath an Estonian Garden

In 1969, Virgo Mitt was digging a well beneath his garden in Merivälja, Tallinn, when he reportedly encountered an extraordinarily hard metallic layer. The fragments he removed would become part of a mystery involving Soviet scientists, military interest and claims of something much larger beneath the property.

In this solo episode, Stu examines Object M and asks what the evidence really supports. A sample associated with the original discovery was analysed in 2017 and identified as likely human-made ferrochrome — but researchers could not be certain that it actually came from Mitt's original find.

So does that solve the mystery, or merely identify one particular piece of metal?

With renewed interest in Object M and the possibility of a modern ground-penetrating-radar survey, this remains a surprisingly testable UFO case.
