"You don't get to be the elder, you don't get to be the wise one, until you've really lived it."
The Sage archetype is the wisdom leader who speaks from lived experience, hard-won lessons, and the perspective that comes from having moved through every earlier stage of leadership. In this episode, Mellissa explores the final archetype on the outer Wheel of Wisdom and the kind of authority that develops when you no longer need to prove how much you know.
She looks at the Sage as mentor, storyteller, collaborator, and keeper of a much longer view. This is leadership that listens for wisdom across the whole group, helps other people rise, and considers what we inherited from those who came before us and what we are leaving for generations still to come. This is the wisdom of the elder, without having to be really old.
In This Episode, Mellissa Talks About:
-
How the seven previous archetypes on the Wheel of Wisdom prepare us for the Sage
-
Why Sage leadership comes from experience, including the mistakes and lessons we learned the hard way
-
Storytelling as a form of leadership that creates deep trust
-
The Sage as an open-minded, collaborative leader who can hold multiple perspectives
-
The difference between teaching, managing, and becoming a true mentor who helps others rise beyond you
-
Seven-generation thinking and the Sage's responsibility to both the past and the future
