Just finished The Things We Make - The Unknown History of Invention by Cathedrals to Soda Cans by Bill Hammack, PhD, an chemical engineering professor at the University of Illinois.
I discovered this book while browsing at the Paper Moon, an awesome bookstore in McGregor, Iowa. It explores the world of engineering and its impact on the history of useful objects. Through the lens of the engineering profession, Hammack identifies how useful objects were invented and the process to invent those objects occurred.
I loved this book. I think it should be on the list for all college first year students and for any life long learned fascinated by science and engineering!
