There have been four great empires. Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman. Each one built on territory, power and control. And according to a prophecy carried in Portugal for the last eight hundred years, there is a fifth — but it isn’t like the others at all.
Luke Levene is the founder of The FiVth, a movement gathering in Portugal each May around this prophecy. We start with the Book of Daniel — Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a statue with a head of gold and feet of clay, and the stone not cut by human hand that shatters it. But we get to the real question fast: if the Fifth Empire is an empire of consciousness, what does that actually mean for a person’s ordinary Tuesday?
Because that’s where this conversation lives. Not in prophecy as spectacle, but in the claim underneath it: that civilisation reorganises itself when enough individuals come into coherence. Which means the work is personal before it is collective.
The FiVth calls it an empire of coherence — not of land, not of power. The idea rests on a simple chain: when the soul awakens, truth emerges. When truth emerges, alignment follows. And when alignment stabilises across enough individuals, society reorganises itself. Which is why they say the Fifth Empire isn’t something we build. It’s something we enter — and the gatherings, the community, the places are reflections of that coherence, not the source of it.
