Lionel Messi has played his final game for Argentina. Or has he? After 21 years with the national team, Messi signed off with a goal and two assists as Argentina beat Benin 3-0 in an emotional farewell at the Monumental.
Dotun Adebayo is joined by South American football expert Tim Vickery to look back at Messi's extraordinary Argentina story, from the 17-year-old Tim first watched at the 2005 South American U20 Championship to becoming a World Cup-winning captain and one of the greatest footballers the game has ever seen.
But Tim also asks whether this really has to be the end. With Lionel Scaloni overseeing a new generation featuring Nico Paz, Franco Mastantuono and an established core of Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Allister, Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez, could Messi one day return without having to carry Argentina on his shoulders?
They also discuss the huge role Jorge Messi played in his son's Argentina career, who could possibly replace the No.10, Tim's favourite Messi moments and the question football will be asking for decades: Will we ever see another Lionel Messi?
