In this episode of The Leader’s Notebook (Ep. 332), I continue our journey through the life of David in 2 Samuel 7–9, looking at a remarkable moment when a powerful king chooses mercy over judgment. David has become a military and political force in Israel, yet when he discovers Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s crippled son and Saul’s grandson, he remembers the covenant he made with Jonathan. Instead of punishment, Mephibosheth is lifted from his brokenness, brought into the king’s house, and given a place at the king’s table.
That story gives us a beautiful picture of the grace we have received through Jesus Christ. Like Mephibosheth, we come before God with nothing of our own to offer. But God remembers His covenant, and when He looks upon us, He sees His Son. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, the judgment seat becomes a mercy seat, and those who were once hopeless are welcomed as sons and daughters to feast at the King’s table. As we close with Psalm 23, we are reminded that the Lord is our Shepherd, our Redeemer, and the One whose goodness and mercy follow us all our days.
