Singer-songwriter Lacy Green returns to Jrodconcerts The Podcast for an intimate, expansive conversation with Jamie. Nearly four years after her November 2022 visit—when she was just six months into motherhood—Lacy sits down to unpack her stunning full-length album Paper Swan, out now via Nobodies Listening.
In a town that frequently measures artistic worth by streaming metrics, sync placements, and immediate return on investment, Lacy gets candid about what it takes to step away from the noise and craft a record solely out of love. She opens up about the reality of entering her 30s as a parent, the guilt and conviction of pulling away from family to track songs, and learning to give every version of herself a seat at the table.
We explore the delicate resilience behind the title Paper Swan, her journey self-tracking and engineering without commercial pressure, and the vulnerability of playing unfinished work for peers. Lacy also breaks down the quiet endurance of her anchor track “There’s Something,” the unflinching character portraits on “Christine” and “Cancer,” how studying religion at UNC Chapel Hill shaped her comfort with spiritual tension in secular art, working with a tight-knit community of Nashville collaborators, and cherished memories of Dolly Parton.
