Agnostic to Afterlife: A Near-Death Experience During Surgery and Beings of Light Joshua D, raised believing in God but without organized religion and identifying as a gay man, describes being agnostic and deeply afraid of death before a near-death experience during Christmas-morning gallbladder surgery caused by infection and leaking pus. Under anesthesia, he became conscious in a dark, calm space, saw a growing swirling tunnel of white light, and witnessed diverse people he somehow knew were 9/11 Twin Tower victims moving peacefully into the light. Three non-human, highly intelligent “beings of light” appeared, guided him through the tunnel over vivid Earth-like landscapes and then through the universe into a hazy space where they communicated telepathically, allowing one question. After asking the meaning of life, he received an electrifying “download” of omniscient understanding, then returned to his body. He later avoided sharing for fear of skepticism or hospitalization, sought medical records, lost his fear of death, reported flashes of spirits, premonitions, stronger dreams, increased respect for religious artifacts, and concluded there is no judgment based on sexuality—only how one treats others. 00:00 Upbringing Without Religion 01:05 Fear of Death and Hell 02:00 Surgery That Triggered It 03:02 Awake in the Darkness 03:35 The Tunnel of Light 05:19 Seeing the 9/11 Dead 07:34 Meeting Light Beings 09:33 Through Earth and Space 11:41 One Question to Ask 12:57 The Omniscience Download 15:07 Back to Life and Silence 17:44 Aftereffects and New Gifts 19:45 No Judgment for the Queer 21:16 Sharing Hope and Closing
