What type of job should you actually look for when you graduate from dental school? Private practice, DSO, Medicaid, public health... there are SO many directions to go, and everyone seems to have an opinion about which one is “best.”
Dr. Haley breaks down the pros and cons of each of these environments and what new dentists should actually prioritize in their first few years of practice. She talks about patient volume, getting enough reps, mentorship, clinical variety, autonomy, compensation, exposure to the business side of dentistry, and how a first job can shape the dentist someone becomes.
Dr. Haley also shares what she would prioritize if she were graduating today, knowing what she knows now several years into her career. There may not be one universally “best” type of job for a new dentist. Instead, the goal is finding an environment that gives you the experience you need to become the dentist you want to be.
If you’re actively job searching, interviewing, or comparing offers, be sure to go back and listen to episodes #252, #294, and #307 for even more on finding and evaluating associate positions!
