Recently I was mixing an album and desperately tried to make the studio into a time machine, to take me back to 1984, and failed. Well kinda, sorta.....made it back some of the way then the dials on the DeLorean starting smoking and I ended up more or less where I started. Why is it so difficult to fully re-create that moment? is it simply impossible to create virgin territory, a cultural zeitgeist moment, or is it analogue vs. digital? or is it about gear?
