His brother gets arrested and charged with a life felony involving a girl who was nine. And Josh Duggar, sitting in a federal prison cell four years into his own sentence, has his attorney put out a statement about how hard it is to be falsely accused.
He "lives with the painful reality of how false accusations can destroy a life," it says. Publicity can "twist the truth into sensationalized fiction."
A jury convicted him. A federal judge refused to overturn it. An appeals court upheld it. The Supreme Court declined to hear it. Four levels of the federal judiciary examined the case against Josh Duggar and left it standing. He is still, in his own telling, the one this happened to.
In 2015, a statement went out under his name admitting he'd led a double life and, in his own words, "acted inexcusably" and "hurt others." The country read it. It ended everything.
In 2025, Josh Duggar told a federal court he didn't write it. He says television producers did.
That's what he's doing in there. Not serving a sentence, taking it apart, one admission at a time. And one of the eight grounds in that motion drags his sisters into it. He walks out February 2, 2033.
