Snakeout is a Michigan hard rock duo balancing two full bands, day jobs, and a growing catalog of catchy, punk-leaning anthems — and in this interview, Brett Dierolf and Jeremy McLary get real about how they make it work.

From their 2022 debut EP "Unapologist" to 2024's "The Holy Ghost EP," Snakeout has built a sound that's equal parts hard rock hook, punk energy, and dynamic songwriting — vocals with a Propagandhi-adjacent edge, dual-guitar interplay, and tight, short songs that hit hard and get out. In this episode of The Metal Maniacs, we dig into the making of their newest release, the writing process behind standout tracks, and what it's really like running two bands at the same time without burning out.

We break down some of the strongest cuts off the new record — "Folding" and its instantly hookable chorus, the punk-rock stomp of title track "Honey Thief," the killer melody on "Dead Eyes," and "Johnny Unitas," which might be my favorite track on the whole thing for the riffs and melody alone. We also get into "Heavy Advantage" and its aggressive, self-referential Snakeout callout, the groove and tempo shifts on "So Easy," the guitar effects and strong mix on "Big Baby," the dual-guitar fun of "Sunkist," the Minus the Bear-style intro on "Souvenir," the big shout-along chorus on "Bad Break," and "Poster Boy" — which, yes, we ask about directly, because it sure sounds like it's about waiting two days for a text back.

Beyond the album breakdown, Brett and Jeremy talk through their songwriting process — how riffs and patterns come together, when a solo earns its spot in a song, how they handle creative disagreements, and what their practice schedule actually looks like when juggling with Tunnel of Love. We also cover their live setup — guitar tone, tunings, cabs, drums — plus what shows are on the books and what's coming next for the band.

If you're into Michigan hard rock, underground punk-leaning bands, or just want an honest look at what it takes to run a DIY band while balancing another project, this is a full behind-the-scenes conversation with Snakeout you don't want to miss.
