We often mistake developed skill sets for natural talents, but using the wrong part of your brain can actually deplete your mental energy by an additional 10 percent. In this conversation, we dive into the science of the innate brain lead and why your survival skills might be the very thing causing your chronic burnout.

Christa Sutton shares her own journey of discovering in her 50s that she had spent decades operating out of a left brain lead that was actually a survival mechanism rather than her natural state. We discuss the four quadrants of the brain, the high cost of cross brain activity, and why rest is a restorative necessity rather than a lazy luxury.

Inside This Episode

  • The Innate Brain Lead: Understanding the ground zero of your brain wiring before society and survival forced you to adapt

  • The Carnival Metaphor: A brilliant visual for why some tasks cost you a penny in energy while others cost you 75 cents and a headache

  • The Over Adapting Trap: Why getting good at something you hate is a one way ticket to chronic exhaustion

  • Redefining Rest: Moving past the guilt of doing nothing and understanding that rest is built into our biology for restoration

  • The Multitasking Myth: Why trying to do everything at once is like trying to race three cars to the finish line simultaneously

The 4 Pillar Tiny Shifts

MIND: Perform the Awareness Experiment. For one day, carry a small notebook and record exactly what you were doing immediately before you felt energized versus depleted. Identifying these patterns allows you to stop the mental drain of over adapting to roles that do not fit.

BODY: Prioritize non negotiable sleep. Focus on achieving quality REM and deep restorative sleep as your physical foundation. Without proper rest, your brain cannot effectively signal your body to function, leaving you in a permanent state of physiological exhaustion.

SOUL: Give yourself genuine grace. We are often experts at extending kindness to others while remaining incredibly hard on ourselves. Practice loving exactly where you are in this moment without judgment, allowing your soul the space to breathe and align with your natural frequency.

HOME: Identify your closed drawer triggers. Pay close attention to the specific areas or drawers in your home that you refuse to look at or habitually skip over. Acknowledge the emotional weight those spaces hold and use that awareness to start decluttering the hidden stress in your sanctuary.
