The Black Codes were a set of restrictive laws passed in the South immediately after the Civil War aimed at limiting the freedoms of black Americans during the early year of Reconstruction, which later paved the path for the Jim Crow laws. This past Wednesday, the SCOTUS took all power out of the Voting Rights Act by their decision on Louisiana's redistricting.
