Set in rural southwestern Indiana in 2013, a community on the brink of unraveling must confront loss, denial, and the possibility of redemption. The novel follows 4 fictional characters — Denise, Nora, Mercedes, and Julie — whose lives intersect around Angie and Brock, a young couple spiraling into opioid addiction. Denise has never trusted her sister Angie's boyfriend, Brock, and Brock's mother, Nora, has doubts of her own. Mercedes, a bar owner and one of the few people who sees Brock clearly, begins to understand the danger surrounding him, while Julie, Denise's observant 14 year old daughter, notices the alarming changes in her aunt. As warning signs are ignored and truths obscured, quiet unease escalates into tragedy. When one death is ruled an accident — and another follows — those left behind must confront not only what happened, but what they failed to see, and decide whether they can trust one another enough to rebuild. About the author: LYNNE HUGO is the award-winning author of 17 books and a licensed, practicing psychotherapist.
