In this talk, Kriya Yoga Teacher Ryan Strong explores connection as an essential part of spiritual awakening. Beginning with a personal experience involving the Vedic ancestral practice of pitṛ tarpaṇa and an unexpected discovery about his own family lineage, Mr. Strong considers how meaningful connections, intuitive guidance, relationships, teachers, nature, and spiritual practice can support our return to our essential nature.
Using the image of a great tree sending its roots toward water, Ryan offers a practical way to evaluate spiritual growth: Is your life expanding into greater connection, understanding, acceptance, and freedom, or becoming increasingly limited by fear, judgment, habits, and attachments? He discusses following the deeper guidance of the heart, drawing strength from the spiritual lineage, living according to truth and ahimsa, and having the courage to make changes when something restricts our growth. Ultimately, meditation provides the deepest restoration of connection, bringing awareness back to stillness and the recognition that the light we seek is our own essential nature.
