In addition to being a seeker of spiritual truths, Laurence Oliphant was also a novelist. Two of his novels, Piccadilly and Masollam, bracket his time in the Brotherhood of the New Life and provide contrasting views of it. But only Piccadilly gave us the sensational character find of 1865: Mr. Wog, an American oilman from Pithole.
Key sources for this episode include... well, Laurence Oliphant's Piccadilly.
