While my childhood was difficult, I learned that allowing myself to be vulnerable (something I learned in Kenya) makes lasting relationships possible: to love and be loved. I wrote Living with Strangers: Healing a Wounded Heart in a Distant Land to encourage older foster youth that a happy adulthood is possible after care.
