”Free Together” | What If Independence Is Making Us Less Free? // Christian Martinsen (Ex. 19:1-6)

Dela

What if our obsession with independence is actually making us less free?

We live in a world with more content and connection than ever—and yet genuine community can feel increasingly scarce. We’ve been taught to imagine freedom as needing nobody, owing nobody, and belonging to nobody. But the story of Exodus offers a radically different vision.

In Exodus 19, God reminds Israel that He rescued them from slavery, carried them to Himself, and formed them into a people with a purpose.

God sets us free FROM slavery, INTO family, and FOR the world.

In this message, Pastor Christian explores why biblical freedom begins with grace rather than self-reliance, why Jesus doesn’t simply save individuals but creates a new family, and why everything God gives to us eventually becomes something He wants to give through us.

Christian community isn’t simply finding people we like or a place where we feel supported. It’s learning to belong to Jesus so deeply that we become free to give our lives away in love.

Freedom isn’t finally the ability to need nobody. Freedom is becoming secure enough in God that we can give ourselves away to somebody.

This message also introduces where we’re headed this fall at Frontier as we journey through Exodus: Learning to Live Free—discovering how God rescues, forms, gathers, and fills a people so they can live for the sake of the world.
