New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says his latest election promise could lead to the country owning its own energy supply.

The Party's promised to develop a national dataset of our offshore oil and gas reserves, using a $1-billion investment to do so.

It would create a framework for the country to develop these sites and extract resources.

John Carnegie Chief Executive of Energy Resources Aotearoa joined Matt Heath and Tyler Adams and stressed the importance of Governments not flip flopping when it comes to natural resources.
