In July 2026, Anastasia Treharne sat in a Sydney courtroom waiting to hear her rapist’s sentence. She had been through a gruelling trial and cross-examined at length, and a jury had found him guilty. The maximum penalty was 14 years in prison.
Instead, he was given a three-year community corrections order and 100 hours of community service. He won’t spend a single night behind bars.
It wasn’t the first time Anastasia had faced the court system. She was also sexually assaulted at 16, and the two cases played out in very different ways.
In this episode, Anastasia tells Gemma about both experiences, from her first assault as a teenager to the sentence she believes is grossly inadequate. She also explains why she refuses to go quietly, and how she is fighting to make sure no one else is let down the way she was.
